Rhythmball™, Exercise and
Arthritis Treatment
Clearly, the preponderance of literature regarding the subject
of exercise and arthritis indicates that arthritis exercise can go a long way
toward reducing arthritis symptoms, arthritis pain and improving overall
flexibility.
Rhythmball™ is an excellent form of arthritis treatment.
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and
skin Diseases states that, “Studies have shown that exercise helps people with
arthritis in many ways. Exercise reduces joint pain and stiffness and
increases flexibility, muscle strength, cardiac fitness and endurance. It
also helps with weight reduction and contributes to an improved sense of
well-being.” The article goes on to state that, “Exercise is one part of a
comprehensive arthritis treatment plan.”
The New
York
State, Office of Aging
recommends that there are three types of arthritis exercise that can reduce
arthritis symptoms. They are,
“Range-of-motion
exercises help maintain normal joint movement and relieve stiffness. This type
of exercise helps maintain or increase flexibility.
Strengthening
exercises help keep or increase muscle strength. Strong muscles help support
and protect joints affected by arthritis.
Aerobic or endurance
exercises improve cardiovascular fitness, help control weight, and improve
overall function. Weight control can be important to people who have arthritis
because extra weight puts extra pressure on many joints. Some studies show
that aerobic exercise can reduce inflammation in some joints.”
Rhythmball™ fits the bill in two of the three categories,
Range-of-motion and Aerobic or endurance exercise. Although we do not have
scientific studies to document Rhythmball’s™ beneficial effects as an
arthritis exercise, we do know that doctors in China
are recommending it to patients for the reduction of arthritis symptoms. It’s
a drug-free arthritis treatment.
In our Section, “Tai Chi History and Benefits,” we refer to an
Arthritis Today article extolling the benefits of Tai Chi as an arthritis
treatment. The article states, “There’s no doubt that tai chi, done properly
can be a beneficial exercise for people with arthritis…”
Should you be under a doctor’s care for treatment of your
arthritis symptoms and/or pain, we recommend that you speak to him/her before
you begin any exercise program. However, if you have arthritis-like symptoms
such as occasional joint pain and loss of flexibility, core-strength and
balance, we believe that you will find, as thousands of Chinese Rhythmball™
participants have, that Rhythmball™ is a wonderful exercise to reduce those
symptoms and help improve your overall fitness
