Above, our founder and developer, Professor Bai Rong, with
Rhythmball™ students, and, on the right, students in wheelchairs playing
Rhythmball™. Rhythmball™ and its exercise equipment was specifically developed
for those with physical disabilities.
In
1991, Professor Bai Rong, of Shanxi University’s physical training department
and a boxing trainer with a background in Tai Chi, originally developed the exercise and
exercise equipment for people who use wheelchairs. The exercise is now played by many of all ages in China, wheeled and ambulatory, making the ambulatory version the "adaptive" one.
The exercise and home exercise equipment are also very popular in Germany, The
Netherlands, Austria and Japan.
Rhythmball™ is our exercise equipment North
American brand, and it originated from "JiuJiuXing" Tai Chi Rouli Ball by the
Beijing Chaoyang District Maizidan Fuli Plastic Products Factory. We are the
sole distributor of the exercise instruction and home exercise equipment in
North America.
The exercise was initially developed to
improve the physical condition of those who use wheelchairs. The exercise
equipment is manufactured in a sheltered workshop in China where approximately
60% of the employees have a physical disability. Rhythmball™ donates a percentage of each
sale to improve employee social services and create more job opportunities for
the factory employees.
The Rhythmball™ exercise and
equipment is particularly helpful to those who are physically challenged as
well as those who suffer from the symptoms of arthritis. Please see our
section, Rhythmball ™ as an Arthritis Exercise, for additional information
regarding this major health benefit.
In individual play, the goal is to guide a
ball by moving a racket in circular movements while keeping the ball from
falling to the ground. Our home exercise equipment is specially made, and
promotes exercise movements typical of Tai Chi.
When two or more people play
together, the idea is to gently receive the ball before passing it on to the
next player. It can also be played more competitively, outside or inside and
with or without a court or a net. It is a whole-body workout, and it's
wonderful abdominal exercise equipment to use in toning those "abs" as well as
all other major muscle groups.
In addition to preserving all the benefits of
Tai Chi, Rhythmball™ presents additional challenge, athleticism, feedback,
teamwork and FUN. It burns as many calories as surfing and almost as many as
downhill skiing. It’s entertaining to watch and typically draws appreciative
and curious spectators. Be prepared to be asked about the exercise and where
you obtained the exercise equipment and instruction.
